We chose to evaluate data with transferred tumours and data with spontaneous tumours individually to avoid model contrasts with missing categories (Rob has no spontaneous tumours, whereas Mt has no transferred tumours).
Both data sets feature the following variables :
ID refers to the individual’s tracking identifier.
Manipulator refers to the person who performed the grafts.
donor designates the lineage of the graft donor: Mt, SpB or Rob.
donor_status refers to the absence or presence of tumors in the graft donor.
donor_tentacle refers to the number of tentacles on the graft donor
recipient designates the lineage of the recipient individual (SpB, TV for the wild group)
recipient_tentacle refers to the number of tentacles on the graft recipient
batch designates the graft batch (depending on the day/time and the manipulator who produced a graft batch)
date_draft refers to the day of the graft
abnormalities refers to whether or not developmental abnormalities were observed
dateT designates the number of days (post-transplant) at which tumors appeared (or not if NA) in the focal individual
Tumors codes 0 for individuals who have never developed tumors and 1 for individuals who have developed tumors during the post-grafting following period.
dateD corresponds to the number of days (post-transplant) at which individuals died (or not if NA).
Death codes 0 for individuals who remained alive throughout the following period and 1 for individuals who died during the post-grafting following period.
tenta_1 à 10 corresponds to the number of tentacles of each individual each week of the post-grafting following period (1 to 10).
buds_1 to 10 refers to the number of buds produced by each individual each week of the post-grafting following period (1 to 10).
tumor size before freezing refers to the tumor size before freezing of the individual (if the hydra remains alive throughout the post-grafting follow-up period), see Tissot et all 2023 for an explanation of the scale used
tenta_max is the maximum number of tentacles developed by tracked individuals during the post-grafting follow-up period (if the hydra remains alive throughout the follow-up period).
diff_max is the difference between the maximum number of tentacles developed during the post-grafting follow-up period minus the number of tentacles of the individual 1 week after grafting.
diff_max_R is the difference between the maximum number of tentacles developed during the post-grafting follow-up period minus the number of tentacles of the recipient before grafting.
